Heather was born to a Miner in Colorado, Glenwood Springs. She’s the second oldest of five siblings. When her parents divorced at the age of 12, her mother moved the kids from Sahuarita, Arizona, to Newcastle, Wyoming. Throughout high school Heather worked and helped care for her siblings while her mom earned a Nursing degree. When she was 17, Heather learned she was pregnant. Within five months, she graduated high school, moved out of her mom’s home, married to her high school sweetheart, and gave birth to a 9lb 3oz baby girl, Cheyenne.
After her husband graduated from college, they moved their new little family to Kearney, Nebraska where Heather pursued various majors before settling on Criminal Justice all the while God was pursuing her heart.
But all wasn’t well in her life. Giving birth to her daughter made her confront her past which was filled with abuse, molestation, and rape. Heather’s life began a downward spiral after being assaulted by a co-worker which led to self harm, alcohol and drug abuse.
On March 23, 2004 after a series of well-timed events, including getting arrested and spending a week in a mental hospital, Heather committed her life to Christ.
Since that night, God has restored her heart, redeemed her family, and added to Cheyenne’s siblings. Heather now has three children and stays at home chasing after them, blogging and writing.
Heather’s days are busy caring for her three kids, ages 15, 7, and 5 while ‘helping’ her husband Chris with his college papers. When she isn’t taking care of her family, she is busy chugging coffee, going for long runs, dancing in Zumba class and attempting to capture her God moments on paper to share with your heart.
She enjoys sharing about the love and redemption of her Father God, and is transparent about life experiences like teenage pregnancy, depression, self harm, addictions, and of course, motherhood while remaining faithful in her calling as God’s ambassador for women and teens alike. The legacy she wants to leave her children and moms, is to know the passionate redeeming love of God.
Her Career Life
In 2011 Heather and her friends created and launched an online women’s magazine while simultaneously landing a contract and agent for her first book, Mama Needs a Time Out.
After the site began moving at breakneck speed and gaining popularity all over Nebraska, Heather began to sense nudges from her Creator to walk away from Her View From Home.
Wanting to obey the call of Christ in her life, Heather resigned from her partnership of Her View From Home and began applying the valuable lessons she learned to her ministries of encouraging real moms in real life through working closely with The MOM Initiative and launching a site for teen/young moms: Detour2motherhood.com.
Heather is a Nebraska favorite speaker for MOPS groups/ mom groups. She is the Mom Expert for Nebraska TV News, airing monthly segments for Mom Moments with Marylyn Barnett. She has been featured in Proverbs 31, MOPS Hello Darling, The Better Mom, Moms Together, Today’s Christian Woman and Focus on the Family. She just finished writing her second book and is now working on a third for teen/young moms.
Heather loves to share her life experiences with women’s group; she and her husband are honored to share their marriage testimony as teen parents on the verge of divorce to complete restoration. She also loves speaking about the various messages God lays on her heart for her groups.
