I am so thrilled. Excited. Can’t wait. Erin MacPherson and I have been working so hard on this book. We’ve prayed for God to move in his timing and here’s the thing: the book God laid on my heart so many years ago is about to be published!! Other details like the website and FB Community Page will be relaunched too.
Want a sneak peek? Here’s what Detour: Surviving (and Loving) Life as a Teenage Mom is about:
Getting pregnant wasn’t part of your plan.
Eventually, sure. But not now when your biggest worries involve passing calculus and figuring out what to wear to the game on Friday night. The road of life has a way of weaving through unexpected detours—and while this turn may throw you off of your planned course, we are confident that with a little help, you can still be the hopeful, relational and unique person that you were created to be.
How exactly does a girl go from homework and hoe-downs to diapers and doctors’ bills? And how can she balance high school, college, work, friends and baby? What about relationships? How can she be equipped for a life she didn’t plan? In this book, teen moms will find encouragement and advice that will help her to:
- Gain hope in both her current situation and her future.
- Secure her identity, as a woman and also as a mom.
- Develop and strengthen her relationships so she has the support she needs.
- Find perspective when everything in her life seems to be topsy-turvy.
And the best part? A Leader’s Guide is currently in the making. This guide can be used in churches, schools, Teen MOPS Groups, small groups, crisis centers, and counseling groups — wherever there is a mentor willing to pour themselves into a teen mom.
The purpose of the leader’s guide is to help you incorporate material from the book into your group. Each of the chapters of Detour focuses on many of the needs young moms have while equipping them to tackle dreams like applying for college, how to build relationships with the baby’s grandparents, and tips on how to care for newborns. This book and leader’s guide has everything a new mom needs plus tons of material to help mentors support young moms.
Be on the look out for the site Detour2motherhood.com (COMING SOON) and be sure to stop by and like Detour’s Facebook Page. In the meantime, check out and like our Pinterest Page: http://www.pinterest.com/detour2momhood. It has boards to answer every young mom’s questions, ideas to inspire dreams, and tips for baby.
What if every church or community in the world reached out and welcomed young moms with support and love?
To inspire and equip everyday women and the church to love and support young moms.
A Detour Group is a place where young moms are welcome as they are and embraced as mothers. It is dedicated to encouraging, equipping, and developing young women to be the best moms they can be while gently guiding them onto the path God has called them.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us, to be confident of this that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. And Jeremiah 29:11 states For I know the plans I have for you says the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.
Detour’s goal is for every pregnant teen and young mom to have a copy of Detour: Surviving and Loving Life as a Teenage Mom along with a mentor or group to go where she can be encourage, equipped, and loved to grow into the woman and mother God has called her to be.
As I type this, the Leader’s Guide is being edited and I need your help to spread the word. You can begin by subscribing to my blog for updates that will be delivered to your inbox. You can also stop by and like the Detour Facebook Page and follow Detour on Pinterest. Be sure to share this post, my site, and Detour’s Facebook / Pinterest Page with every mentor, teen mom leader, teen MOPS leader, teen counselor and teenager you know.
Please pray for each book to be completed and published in a timely fashion. Also be on the look out at MOPS.org as they have a special treat for every teen mom and teen MOPS leader.
