I became a mom at 17 and vividly remember the struggles, frustrations and the longing to be accepted by my older peers in the world of motherhood. Because teen pregnancy seems to make or break a young woman’s life, my passion and dream is to connect, inspire and encourage teen moms to become the best mom possible while she’s still growing up herself.
My goal is to walk alongside you to encourage you to go to college, find your calling, chase your dreams, find the right guy and figure out who this “God guy” is.
In a few short months, my book Detour: Surviving and Loving Life as a Young Mom will be completed, so will a special site just for young moms. Coming SOON: Detour2Motherhood.com. In the meantime, check out Teen MOPS and see if there is a group in YOUR area, if not email me at Heather@herviewfromhome.com and I can help you launch a group.
Okay, so you’re wondering, what is MOPS? MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. It is an international organization whose mission is to connect mothers with others and lead them to chrism.
“MOPS groups are communities that strive to meet the needs of every mom with children from birth through kindergarten. MOPS recognizes that urban, suburban, and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single, and married moms all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be. MOPS groups can help! There are more than 3900 MOPS groups meeting across the United States and in 35 countries around the world” (Quoted from www.mops.org).
Mops groups meet regularly, usually about twice a month and are filled with resources, tips, advice, connections and offer a chance to build relationships, long lasting friendships, and offer a way connect to God.Teen MOPS is an extension of the regular mops group designed to fit the nine unique needs of Teen Moms. We bring in speakers, and focus on topics relevant to Teen Moms.
Teen Mops provides support, and encouragement in a caring, relaxed environment. This group assures teen moms they can parent and there are people to walk along side them on this journey. The most important aspect of a teen mom is they don’t want to be judged, they want support. They love their children as much as moms who are older and they have the same hopes, dreams, and aspirations for children. The only difference is they are still growing up themselves.
